It was December 2021, and I had just graduated. My friends had already jumped into their careers, but I was busy living the "chill" life—sleeping in, making zero plans, and enjoying every bit of freedom. But life has its own plans, and my friend, Ismail Hasan Sarker, decided it was time for me to join the workforce. He messaged me one day: "What's going on? Why aren’t you applying for jobs?" My reply was simple and a little embarrassing: "I don’t even have a CV!"
He immediately told me, "Let's make one right now." And that night, with Ismail’s guidance, I crafted my very first CV. The next morning, I was ready to face the job market.
The First Step: Applying to Rokomari
I started applying to various companies, and one of the positions that caught my eye was for Android App Developer at Rokomari.com. I hit "Apply" and forgot about it, not knowing this one decision would change everything.
A week later, I got a message from Rokomari's HR team. They had shortlisted me for the first round, which was a written MCQ exam. The exam covered everything from Dart, Flutter, Android, and iOS to Git and problem-solving. Since I had been preparing for Flutter, this was right up my alley.
With 60 questions and just 60 minutes to finish, I breezed through it in 14 minutes. I felt pretty confident that I had aced it. Then came the waiting game. A couple of weeks later, I got the call: I'd passed and was moving on to the next round—the technical interview with the developer team.
Round 2: Technical Interview
This round was held online, and I had to talk about myself first—basic stuff. Then the real fun began: technical questions! They asked me about Android, problem-solving, and other tricky stuff. Some questions went over my head, but I didn’t panic. Asif bhai, a senior software engineer at Rokomari, was so kind. After the interview, he took the time to explain the answers to me. I learned a lot, even though I hadn’t answered everything correctly.
Round 3: The Behavioral Round
A few weeks later, I received another call. This time, it was a behavioral interview with HR at the Rokomari office. The HR person wanted to know about my goals, what motivated me, and how long I planned to stay with the company. Every company wants to make sure their employees are in it for the long run, and I got that.
Round 4: The Founder’s Interview (The Nerve-Wracking One)
And then came the round I was both excited and nervous about: the interview with Mahmudul Hasan Sohag, the founder of Rokomari.com. It felt like the ultimate test.
Before the interview, they gave me an assignment: Find 10 problems in Bangladesh and propose solutions. I worked hard on it and submitted my ideas. When the interview started, Sohag bhai was super friendly, and we talked about everything—my career plans, my interests, and my YouTube channel where I taught app development.
But then came the dreaded moment: The Straight-Line Equation. Sohag bhai asked me to draw some equations on paper. I was nervous, my hands were shaking, and... I drew everything wrong. I could feel my face turning red. I was a software engineer who couldn’t even draw a straight line!
But here’s the twist—Sohag bhai didn’t give up on me. Instead of criticizing me, he appreciated my honesty when I said, "No, I can fix this myself." That small moment made all the difference. He asked me a few more questions about the straight-line slope and other basic concepts, and I handled them better.
Round 5: Salary Negotiation & CEO Interview
After that, I got a call for the salary negotiation round with Senior HR. This was an online call, and everything went smoothly. I had no idea what to expect, but it was less stressful than I imagined.
Two days later, I was called for the final round—the CEO interview with Ronnie bhai. This interview was very brief but fun! He asked me about my hometown, my career journey, and my interest in problem-solving. I felt like it was more of a casual chat than an interview, which helped me relax.
The Big News: I Got the Job!
After almost two months of interviews, calls, and waiting, I finally got the call that changed everything. I had been selected as a Junior Software Engineer at Rokomari.com!
I started on April 23, 2022. The first three months were probationary, and after that, I was officially part of the team. I began working on the Rokomari Mobile App using Flutter. It felt surreal to be part of a company that I had respected for so long.
So, that’s my journey from a chilled-out graduate to a Junior Software Engineer at Rokomari.com. Looking back, I realize that each step taught me something new—never stop learning, stay calm under pressure, and believe in yourself. And when life gives you a straight-line equation, don’t panic! You’ve got this.
