2025: Current & Future

This is a submission for the 2025 New Year Writing challenge: Compiling 2025.

There seems to be no end of interesting things to look into! Here is a quick list of my current dev-related happenings:

  • Continue working on my current personal project, goVend. An app that connects vendors to events.

    goVend

  • Finish my Google IT Support certificate, and prep for CompTIA A+ exam.

    Networked computers

  • Build a website for my small business. I have used templates and stuff in the past, but I want to make it mine. <3

    Ever Fluorescent

  • In addition I will:

  • Work on projects in the 0 (1) Software Network, a group of software devs of varying skill levels.

  • Deepen knowledge of JavaScript.

  • Continue learning THREE.js.

  • Peek into AWS stuff on a deeper level.

  • Find some paid work.

  • Build a portfolio page once and for all.

  • Continue learning Ruby on Rails.

  • That's probably a year of work, but just in case I'm also thinking about learning Python if I manage to cover all that!

One of my plans here is to one day use code to make art. I would like that very much.

My interests have also been peaked by things such as p5, D3, tsParticles, and playing with google maps. I have taken a liking into creating graphics from data. That is mostly an unexplored area for me.

I also like the idea of building worlds in VR. Awesome. Actually, I'd like to build a game in THREE.js and I believe it's got compatibility with that.

    Cat up a tree

I feel so far from barking up that tree, but also, it's not impossible. There are many unknown factors at play here. I might get really excited about another language, who knows. The name of the game is to keep the door open a degree but also maintain focus. My mission this year from a developer point of view is to maintain that very careful balance, which is required for success.

Not a single community has been more inclusive and welcoming than the people I have met on my coding journey. I have high expectations of those I surround myself with and learn so much from others.

We as devs, spend a lot of time facing the computer screen. But it's those tiny moments of victory we can share with others that make it all worth it. We turn to the computer because we like it, and in doing so, we find our true friends. I am excited for all of the friendships I have yet to make in the coming year, the highs, the lows, I will even celebrate the occasional bug. Because at the end of the day, the thing that many see as not so human, is a long history of tiny celebrations, wins, losses, and human emotion.

    Coding has a heart, mine.
