What is Product Hunt and how devs can use it

As we are preparing for a launch on Product Hunt I started thinking about the value and user cases it can have for the Developer Community.

The platafomr is a launchpad and community hub for tech enthusiasts but for us developers, Product Hunt can offer more than just a place to browse cool new stuff. It can be a space to showcase our projects, discover new technologies, gather valuable feedback from a community of peers, and connect with potential collaborators or users.

What is Product Hunt?

First things first: What is Product Hunt?
Think of Product Hunt as a social media platform specifically designed for product launches. Every day, creators submit new products, and the community can upvote, comment on, and discuss these new products.
Products with the most votes rise to the top of the daily list, gaining significant exposure. This visibility on Product Hunt can translate into real benefits for developers, including user growth, valuable feedback, and increased networking opportunities.

How Developers Can Use Product Hunt

Thinking about how devs could use Product Hint I came up with four primary:

  1. For Discovery: Product Hunt allows us to explorie the latest trends in technology and software. There is a lot of noise there, but by digging into new launches, we can find tools that are useful to our workflows, spark inspiration for new projects, or discover innovative solutions to existing problems.

  2. For Feedback: Launching a product on Product Hunt is a great way to gather immediate and actionable feedback from other developers and tech enthusiasts. Don't just focus on the number of upvotes – discussions about your project's features or insightful comments with specific suggestions are equally valuable forms of feedback.

  3. For Networking: The platform fosters connections with other creators in the tech world. Engage not only with potential "Hunters" (users who submit new products) but also with other tech enthusiasts who comment on your product or on interesting projects you discover. These interactions can lead to valuable collaborations or even job opportunities.

  4. For Promotion: By launching our projects on Product Hunt, we can gain exposure to a wide audience that's interested in new tech products. This exposure is especially beneficial for independent developers or those starting new ventures.

Why are we launching on PH?

The answer is Network, Feedback and Promotion.
Webcrumbs is a small Open Surce company and getting a good exposure can really helps us to find new users and drive product growth.

We also hope to gather Feedback to make our tool better and make sure we are building things that our users really want.

Have you checked PH yet?

IMO these days PH is too overwhelming (and overrated), the list is too long, good products get lost there often and mediocre generic ideas shine being promoted. But maybe that’s not about PH, that’s just the Internet of today πŸ˜…
