Today, out of the blue, I decided to go to the office to work, and it turned out to be a really great experience. I regret not doing this sooner! From now on, I’ve decided to work from the office as much as I can. In this blog, I will share my experience and discuss some personal advantages of working from the office.
Background
Before going further, let me explain my current role. I work as a Research Assistant at Seneca Polytechnic’s Applied Research department. For the project I'm working on, I’m not required to go to the office. I can work from anywhere I want. Although Seneca has an amazing employee lounge, I have always preferred to work remotely.
Why I Used to Avoid the Office?
There are a few reasons why I avoided going to the office. Once you start working from home, it's hard to go back to the office. The prime reason for this is laziness. Moreover, Since my project doesn’t require me to go to the office, there was no real motivation to do so. Lastly, I have a great home setup. Hence, I used to think, "What's the point of working from the office when all I have to do is hop from my bed to my chair?" Plus, I have access to my kitchen, so I can eat whatever and whenever I want.
The Turning Point
Despite these reasons, today I decided to pick up my laptop and head to the office. Now, let me talk about some of the significant advantages of working from the office, which I believe outweigh the benefits of working from home.
1. Healthier Food and Beverages
At home, I can eat whatever and whenever I want, but this freedom turns into a disadvantage. I mostly choose junk food, fast food, and soft drinks. However, at the office, there are healthier options like coffee, protein bars, and fruits.
2. Focused Work Environment
The office environment feels like a library, with everyone working around you. Although my room at home is also quiet, it's comfortable too. I can sit in all sorts of relaxing positions, which often leads to small naps. However, at the office, the professional atmosphere helps me stay productive. Further, at home, I often pull up a new tab and start watching YouTube videos, procrastinating on my tasks. In contrast, at the office, seeing everyone else working motivates me to stay focused and avoid distractions. Another great thing about working from the office is the natural light. The sunlight creates a feel-good factor.
3. Other Significant Advantages
Working from the office also provides opportunities for networking. You can interact with others and build connections. Furthermore, since the office is only about 1.3 kilometers away from my place, I walk there, which gives me some physical exercise. This is something I wouldn’t normally do if I were working from home.
Final Words
Finally, with this blog, I just want to motivate you. if you haven’t tried working from the office yet, you might want to give it a try. It has made a positive difference for me, and I believe it could for you as well.
