This Week in Docker: AI, AI, AI!

WHALE HELLO THERE! The last two weeks were crazy again with a lot of exciting developments in the DevOps and Docker Space. Let's get into what happend including new Docker Features, Outages and cool job opportunities :)

docker

Docker Desktop 4.38

Desktop 4.38

Docker finally released Docker Desktop 4.38 which is packing a few new features, including:

  • Multi-Node Kubernetes integration
  • GA of Docker Bake
  • The Beta Version of Gordon (see below!)

Sliplane used by 1700+ developers!

Managing Docker in production can be challenging. Sliplane is a fully managed container as a service (CaaS) platform that simplifies Docker hosting. You bring the code, and Sliplane builds the image, runs the container, and handles provisioning and securing the infrastructure. And the best part, you only pay for the server resources, not the amount of services you run. 10 containers or 1, doesn't matter!

Docker Hub Outage

Outage

Following the Docker Desktop Incident in the last episode, Docker continued their unlucky streak this week with another DockerHub outage where most unauthenticated pulls failed with 500 error codes. But luckily the great engineers at Docker fixed it pretty quickly! I hope your prod did not die because of that :)

Gordon Released!

Gordon

Gordon got released sounds like some Marvel Movie Villain got out of prison, but in the boring reality its sadly just another AI experiment of our favorite whale-themed company. Docker's Gordon, integrates with Docker Desktop and CLI, offering tailored advice for containers and Dockerfiles. It helps with specific tasks like optimizing Dockerfiles and troubleshooting. You need the latest Docker Desktop to use it and it needs to be enabled in the settings.

Awesome Jobs

I know the job market can be rough right now for some, so here are some pretty cool jobs you might've not heard about yet:

Distributed Systems Engineer

My friends at E2B are currently hiring for a Distributed Systems Engineer role. Probably a very demanding role but a cracked team and you get to work on open source!

Staff Technical Writer at Docker

Docker is hiring a Staff Technical Writer. Getting paid to write about Docker sounds like an absolute dream! And you even get merch lol

Anything else I missed or what you'd like to see in the next one? Let me know in the comments :)

Cheers,
Jonas
