I've worked in basic for 30 years. Vb.net being that latest incarnation. Starting to head down the Java script rabbit hole these days. I'm really interested in what seems to be possible with. It's quite a learning curve but at least I'm not starting from scratch (kind of). Really looking forward to what I hope the forum can do to help me along in my journey
Hi developers,
Soniya here. I am currently not working anywhere; I took a career break one year ago because I was expecting a baby. Now my baby is seven months old, and I want to start working again. I have 6.5 years of experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SASS, SCSS, HubSpot, Shopify, and WordPress. I also have basic knowledge of React.js.
Now that I have started job searching, I see that many positions require React.js skills, and I only have a basic understanding of it. Therefore, I want to enhance my knowledge in React.js.

Hello there 👋.
I have been learning how to make websites for the last 3 years and I am enjoying it, who is the same as me?😊
my portfolio: idriss.douiri.org
Hi Idriss,
Good to hear you've been enjoying your web development journey! 😊
Did you use Astrojs for your portfolio? What was your experience with it? 🌟
Hi Jenna, thanks for replying. Yes actually my portfolio was the first thing I made using Astro and it was straightforward to pick up following only its great documentation, after that, I fell in love with it and I use it on my blog too.
Do you have any feedback for me to improve?
Hello Idriss,
Yes, I glance at the AstroJS documentation, it is quite easy to follow. I haven't built anything concrete with it yet, but I plan to do so in future. It's a good choice for making a portfolio and is particularly great for creating static content like blogs, documentation sites, personal websites, landing pages, etc.
As for your portfolio, it is a good start. However, here are some points you may want to consider improving:
Header
Impactful Introduction:
Make your introduction more impactful and your contact info stand out more.
The gradient background on the intro text could be distracting. Consider simplifying it to ensure your text stands out more.
Turn your contact info into separate call-to-action buttons, which will make them stand out more and may increase clicks.
Main content
Width of your content:
The layout seems cramped, but extending the width can make the content more readable and create a more balanced layout.
White Space:
Consider adding more white space between each section, this helps to differentiate between each section. It allows your content to breathe.
Projects Section:
I noticed that your project screenshots are of different sizes. Make them uniform to create a more appealing visual and draw attention to your projects.
Adding descriptions for each project (possibly in the form of case studies) will provide more context and detail about your work.
Project Layout:
Applying a beautiful grid layout provides uniform space for each of your projects. You can search online for more inspiration, or I am positive other members here will happily assist.
Footer:
Consider adding your contact details in the footer as well.
Overall:
Your portfolio is good. I like the simple design and the gradient effect in the header.
Eventually, with some tweaks here and there, your portfolio can become even more effective in showcasing your skills and attracting potential opportunities.
I haven't looked into your code in detail, but overall it appears well-structured.
I hope this feedback will be helpful to you. 😊
Good job on your portfolio! 👍 Keep up the great work. 🚀
Thank you Jenna you are the best 🫡, I really appreciate the time you put into this feedback 🥹 and will be working on it soon.
As for the projects section, I intentionally made it like that inspired by Pinterest's layout.
Great! I look forward to your updates. 😊
Cheers
Happy weekend.
Hey guys. All is well ? It's been a while since I wrote some posts, I wrote random topics on my profile, about my area. Having sought out subjects that I don't come across often, I write about them in a clearer way for easy understanding. For newcomers, welcome, DEV's hug will welcome you. Soon you will become addicted to writing too.
