Use πŸ‘ more often

Agree with a GitHub comment? Spare a second of your time and give that comment a πŸ‘. It can make the author of the content feel good and encourage them to contribute more.

Want that issue to be resolved sooner? Give it a πŸ‘. It's often used by maintainers for prioritizing issues.

Some advice:

  • favor πŸ‘ over ❀️/πŸŽ‰/πŸš€ for GitHub issues, it will make prioritizing issues easier to do for maintainers (GitHub UI allows you to sort issues only by a particular reaction)
  • use πŸ‘Ž less often (or don't use it at all), it can make the contributor feel bad and even discourage them from contributing
  • never write a comment that just says "+1" or "πŸ‘", use the πŸ‘ reaction

Use πŸ‘ more often.

Feel like this would fit under either the watercooler tag of discuss maybe. πŸ€” πŸ‘

Could you elaborate? Do you think github and opensource tags should be removed? I'm new to dev.to, would appreciate any advice.

Nah, they can stay, but I would add either watercooler or discuss to get more eyes on your post, you can check out dev.to/t/{tag} and look at the guidelines in the sidebar for the tag and see which you feel would be the appropriate one to add. πŸ™‚

Substitute {tag} with the tag you would like to see, so /t/discuss, and so on. πŸ‘
