WARNING I do not intend to start a battle because of my cover image in this article. I just thought it would be funny.
Hello, users! 👋
Long time we don't read each other!
So it's been almost 6 months since I left web development and joined the gamedev journey. The why's and how's, however, won't be included in this article.
So after all I've been learning I can finally show my first official game... ¡Space Walk! 🥳
Space Walk
Space Walk is a 2d-platform-shooter, a project I created for school. In other words, my homework. However, I'm really happy with the result and I wanted to publish it and show it in my portfolio.
Some images:
You can play it here. ✨
The challenge
As homework the requirements were not extensive, but I wanted to take this assignment as a personal challenge and create a game from beginning to end, with a closed level and some mechanics that were hard for me to code.
Thanks!
So I just wanted to show this because I'm really proud I could create this from scratch and with my own knowledge.
Hope you have a great week, read you soon! 👋
PS; You can read the postmortem here.

Congrats on your first game! Always an exciting milestone in game dev.
Back when I was in game dev (before I switched to web dev), my first game was a very basic pong clone except with both players having two paddles instead of one.
So, your space platformer is definitely better than my first game 😅
Thank you, Frank!
Though 2 paddles are definitely better than one, that was a very great idea!
Hey that's amazing, congratulations! I'm a Front-End dev but I definitely want to learn game development one day, I'm thinking about starting with a Unity 2D course I saw on udemy and some sprite design just like yours, which engine did you use btw?
Sounds nice! I'm using Unity right now, I feel really comfortable with it, didn't took me long to adapt!
Congrats! That sounds very exciting! I'm thinking about checking out the game dev section.
I wanted to test the game but when I click "Run Game" I get a blank screen.

Am I doing something wrong? :/
Hello 👋, it doesn't work properly depending on what browser you're using it seems. Chrome sometimes work, so does Opera and Safari. But I still don't know why, maybe it's due to the version of the browser...
Hey Desiré,
ok :)
for the sake of the completeness: i'm using Chrome 87.0.4280.141.
Holy Wow!!!! Amazing!!!!
I jumped down the first hole in the ground and I was very pleasantly surprised there was a whole other "underworld" down there.....
BRAVO!!!!
As a quick note, it only worked in Safari for me, but failed in chrome. Maybe a note?
👏
It's a known issue! Sadly I don't know why 😥, thanks for playing it, glad you liked it!
The screenshots look cool man! Maybe you can expand on your current idea, beta test with some of your family/friends and then release the final version on steam.
Congratulations on your first game btw!
Love it! I plan on starting a gamedev journey as well.
Congratulation for your first game, keep sharing your projects 🔥
Thank you so much Killian, feel free to reach me anytime to share gamedev journey's things! 🙌
Great work! And didn’t knew you switched to game development. Good luck with the new journey. 🤗
Thank you so much! It's been a crazy ride but I'm enjoying it so much. 😄
You became an inspiration to me. Congratulations on all your achievements, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences.
Saludos 😉
Heck yeah!
Ah, what a fun game! I liked the freedom of choosing left or right instead of being forced in one direction.
Really glad someone noticed the path's freedom! 🙌 Thanks for playing 😄
You are doing very well
Well done 🤗! You have all the reasons to be proud of yourself.
Interesting, I made the semi switch as well, though I still heavily enjoy vanilla JavaScript. Though I'm doing Unity3D, gamedev and VR more now. Btw your game is fun to play!
Congratulations. It was pretty fun. I wish you success on this long road :)
hmmmm, maybe i should make the switch..
