You read that correctly at the beginning of this article! GitHub certifications were costing US$99 earlier this year, but starting today (09/17/2024), those who wish to pursue an official GitHub Foundations certification can do so at no cost.
What Do You Need?
Be a Verified Student
You need to be a verified student (https://education.github.com/pack/join). GitHub verifies this to confirm that you are a student. They require candidates to use a school or university-issued email address to register.
Have Two-Factor Authentication Enabled on Your GitHub Account
Your GitHub account must have two-factor authentication enabled to access this benefit.
What Content Should You Know?
The exam tests basic skills with fundamental GitHub concepts such as repositories, commits, branches, markdowns, and project management. You should be familiar with:
- Introduction to Git and GitHub
