Windows 11 Enterprise Evaluation Edition is a trial version offered by Microsoft for testing purposes. It is valid for 90 or 180 days, depending on the version, and cannot be activated with a regular product key. Instead, it must be converted to a fully licensed version.
Follow these steps to activate or upgrade from Windows 11 Enterprise Evaluation:
1. Check Your Current Windows Edition
Before activation, confirm that you're running the Enterprise Evaluation version:
Press Win + R, type winver, and hit Enter.
If it shows Windows 11 Enterprise Evaluation, it is a trial version.
Alternatively, open Settings > System > About and check under Windows specifications.
2. Convert Windows 11 Enterprise Evaluation to a Full Version
Since the evaluation edition cannot be directly activated, you must upgrade it to a full version first.
Option 1: Upgrade via Command Prompt
Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Press Win + S, type cmd, right-click, and select Run as administrator).
Run the following command to change the edition:
dism /online /set-edition:Enterprise /productkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /acceptEula
Replace XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX with a valid Windows 11 Enterprise product key.
Restart your computer when prompted.
Option 2: Upgrade via Activation Settings
Go to Settings > System > Activation.
Click Change product key and enter a genuine Windows 11 Enterprise key.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the activation.
3. Obtain a Genuine Windows 11 Enterprise License
If you don’t have a valid product key, you can:
- Purchase a Windows 11 Enterprise license from the Microsoft Store.
- Use a Volume Licensing key if your organization provides one.
- Subscribe to Microsoft 365 E3/E5, which includes an Enterprise license.
- Third-Party Authorized Resellers.
- Verify Activation Status After activation, confirm that Windows is fully licensed:
Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
slmgr /xpr
If it says The machine is permanently activated, your Windows 11 Enterprise is fully activated.
Important Notes:
Evaluation versions cannot be permanently activated. They must be upgraded to a full version.
Once the trial expires, Windows will enter Reduced Functionality Mode (black screen, restart prompts, etc.).
If you do not upgrade before expiration, you may need to reinstall Windows from scratch.
