How I passed AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01)

Hello fellow, I'm so happy to share with you that I have passed the AIF-C01 examination and received the AWS Certified AI Practitioner Early Adopter badge on January 6th, 2025. Therefore, I'm writing this blog post to share my process of achieving this with you. Happy reading guys. πŸ₯°

AWS Certified AI Practitioner - Credly

Earners of this badge understand AI, ML, and generative AI concepts, methods, and strategies in general and on AWS. They can determine the correct types of AI/ML technologies to apply to specific use cases and know how to use AI, ML, and generative AI technologies responsibly. They are familiar with the AWS Global Infrastructure, core AWS services and use cases, AWS service pricing models, and the AWS shared responsibility model for security and compliance in the AWS Cloud.

Before jumping into the main content, I want to clarify that my background is nary knowledge of AI and I work as a backend developer. So what motivates me to study and get this certificate? Throughout all tech events, I joined in 2024, all contents were less or more surrounded or related to Generative AI, especially Responsible AI and its effect in all facets of our lives. This trend is like a billowed wind billows everything around it, including me. Furthermore, the end of the year is usually spare time, so I leverage it to learn new skills and AI is not a bad choice. The answer seems manifest. Yeah, this gossip is enough, let start the topic of this blog off. 😁

2. Time to prepare before taking part in an official examination

It took me two weeks in total. I worked in the daytime and studied for 2 hours at night each day. I spent the third quarter of the time learning new pieces of knowledge (9 days) and the rest of the time practicing with sample tests (3 days).

3. Resources for learning and revising

  • Exam Guide - You have to read it to understand which topics that the exam will be covered, exam structure, question types, etc.
  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner - Full Course by freeCodeCamp - This video is new and suitable for studying.
  • AWS Skill Builder - Exam Prep Standard Course - As AWS mentioned, this is not a course that will teach you new knowledge, but help you revise on each topic that the exam will cover. I recommend you watch it after finishing the above course.
  • AWS Skill Builder - Practice Question Set - Official practice exam from AWS, you should try it to have practical experience and validate your knowledge (I have got 100% on the first try).
  • Practice Exam AIF-C01 - Mock exam by Stephane Maarek on Udemy. It includes 4 exams with the length same as the actual exam. These questions are longer, tricky, and harder. With a detailed explanation of each question, I highly recommend trying this mock test to increase your confidence before going to the official exam day (I got 75%, 80%, 90%, 90%).
  • Notion Note - My note and key takeaways throughout all learning process, including main content and white papers you should read to sharpen your knowledge

4. Tips

  • Almost all questions are about Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, please focus on them.
  • One question about the format of Prompt Engineering (Few-shot prompting is my case).
  • 2 - 3 questions related to key characteristics of Responsible AI (I got 2 questions about Human-Centered Design)
  • Some questions about Amazon Q and AWS AI Managed Services such as Amazon Comprehend, Rekognition, Textract, Polly, etc.
  • A few questions related to AI development lifecycle, the algorithm for evaluating model, or jargon in AI such as tokens, embeddings, etc.

5. Result and Feedback

Overall, this examination is quite easy. I took only 30 minutes to finish (including reviewing all flag questions). All questions are clear, succinct, and easy to read. Some questions are duplicated with the question that existed in the practice exam from Udemy.

My score was 800/1000. Maybe I did it too fast and made some mistakes. πŸ˜‚

My Certificate
