I would accept an offer from Apple, Amazon and Netflix.
I could work at Google but only if I don't have to waste my time through their bureaucratic hiring practices.
Facebook is a NO for ethical reasons,
I don't want to work for Philip Morris 2.0.
Good call, I hope someday you will get an offer
I don't need an offer, I'm starting my solobusiness
Congrats, all the best to you and your business
No. These companies have famously poor cultures ("pip" lifestyle, etc), and ultimately I am not convinced that they do work that benefits humanity.
I respect that, Steve. I don't have as strong opinion as you, but there are many cases where big techs chosen profits over people
Meta and Apple probably not, since I am not fond of their products.
Amazon and Netflix probably not because of the UX of their products.
So out of the tech giants, I would probably look at Google if I were looking for a job, I think they have some amazing stuff. Boy, am I picky.
I like your reasoning, Google has for sure some great software out there
The only one I'd possibly work for is Netflix, but I admit to not knowing much about their internals. I would have said Apple, but they too are implementing the unsupported-with-data return-to-office policy. Amazon treats its workers like crap. Google used to be good waaay back, but its long since past its prime. Meta is just evil. In general, it's best to avoid companies that the general public knows about or where their primary income is mining user data.
The same choose as mine, and pretty the same reasoning. I much prefer not to work for known "evil" companies
No. Don't want to be part of the problem.
My stack rank on which companies I'd be interested in joining first
I don't have a "why" at this point since we're talking hypotheticals
Apple is an excellent choice! I always wanted to work for Amazon or Netflix, but lately Amazon has a bad rep (at least in my bubble) so my go to would be Netflix
Yeah, I concur with sentiment regarding Amazon. I only ranked them above Netflix as I have very little context on Netflix and feel AWS has a broader offering of opportunities.
After a few experiences in corporate environments, I've just decided that I'm more suited to working at start-ups and scale-ups, so no, I don't have any desire to work for the FAANGs.
Back when I was knee-high to a duck my dream was to work for AMD though; I really wanted to work on next-gen CPUs ever since I owned a Duron CPU, always imagined designing ARM based AMD CPUs... but it turned out I'm better at software than hardware, and I don't like big companies, so um... yeah.
That's sometimes happen, Wynand. I know that feeling. I started my programming journey from creating browser games, but I quickly realized it's not for me π
No. But that's just me.
FAANGs look good on resumes and pay well, and probably have benefits you can take advantage of to take care of yourself. Also top-tier smart people you can learn from, hopefully.
I'd much rather be selective about a start up or scale up, I find its easier to make a difference there and the work is often more rewarding. That usually results in them taking care of you.
It all comes down to priorities, though.
In big techs it all depends on the team where you get to. If your peers and managers are supportive you can make meaningful things and have great career. If it's the opposite, you can be miserable.
In startup or scale up you usually have one team - but the odds that they care about you are higher, but it's not mean they are like that all the time
Totally agreed. I guess as with most questions in software, the answer is "It depends" :D
The bottom line for me is that your work is rewarding to you, you feel safe and happy doing it, and that you are fairly rewarded for giving your time. For me personally the tradeoffs of working for a start/scale up pay off far more than working at a FAANG. Then again, I have never worked for a FAANG and all my evidence is anecdotal.
No, FAANG is what has this mass layoff and difficult job market. Facebook has proven to be more antisocial media than social media. The only one that remotely appeals to me is Netflix.
Just like me, cheers Andrew
Definitely no to FAAN and "maybe" for Google. but in any case, working in corporations is boring and their bureaucracy is exhausting
Would be Google
Yes I would.
Depending on what I'd be working on. I feel like I have the most negative disposition on Facebook
Hope you someday will get such offer
I wouldn't bend over backwards to make it happen, but yes, yes I would.
What company you choose if you would have magic wand?
