I Built an AI-Powered Five Whys Tool to Improve Root Cause Analysis

Hey Devs! 👋

Lately, I’ve been diving deeper into AI models, and I wanted to put my knowledge to the test with a small project. Instead of starting from scratch, I thought—why not apply AI to a problem-solving technique I already find useful?

Enter The Five Whys Method—a simple yet powerful framework (originally from Toyota) that helps uncover the root cause of a problem by repeatedly asking “Why?”. While it’s effective, I’ve noticed that in practice, it’s easy to get off track, fall into circular reasoning, or stop too soon.

So, I built The Five Whys, an AI-powered tool that makes the process more structured and insightful:
✅ Keeps you focused with guided “Why?” prompts
✅ Helps avoid surface-level fixes and uncover deeper insights
✅ AI suggests actionable solutions based on your responses
✅ Save & export problem-solving sessions for future reference

This was a fun experiment to see how AI can assist structured thinking. It’s nothing huge, but I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have you used the Five Whys before? Do you think AI can improve root cause analysis?

Would love any feedback or thoughts! 🚀
