Did I Get Your Attention?
Creating Income
Writing on platforms like Medium or Dev.to isn't just about getting your thoughts out there—it can be a solid source of passive income. In this post How I decided on Dev.to as my writing home, I explained why I chose Dev.to as my writing home. While some write for the money, I write to expand my influence. As one of the top sellers in my dorm once said:
"Just keep posting. They might not buy now, but when they need it, they'll know where to find it."
Before diving into Dev.to, I 've posted some of my videos on YouTube:
These videos, along with my social media posts, have led to opportunities to build AI services like invoice information extraction and chatbot systems for clients. Another income stream has been consulting, helping clients upgrade their systems and boost performance using AI.
YouTube is an incredible platform to showcase ideas, but it’s time-consuming. Planning and recording are easy, but video editing? That’s where it gets tough. So now, I reserve video content for major projects and focus on writing for everything else. Writing reduces the motion waste and is easier to get started.
Sharing Is Learning
If you’re just passively consuming information without deeply understanding or reorganizing it, you're wasting time. That’s why I've made it a habit to share and document everything on My GitHub - mrzaizai2k.
I love sharing. My head’s full of ideas, and writing helps me think clearly and simplify things before presenting them to you. My goal is to make things so straightforward that even beginners or clients can easily understand.
Writing also hones skills that are useful in various contexts—like summarizing and filtering what’s actually needed by your audience, which comes in handy when explaining things to clients. Plus, it’s helped me improve my English. A few years ago, I noticed that the path from my thoughts to my words was pretty bumpy, especially when translating from Vietnamese to English. I’m working on smoothing that out, and the only way to do it is through more practice.
Accepting that there's no shortcut is the key to self-improvement.
Reducing Stress
I recently uninstalled TikTok, Threads, and Instagram from all my devices. But that wasn't enough. To keep myself from getting sucked back into social media, I needed to replace that free time with new habits like reading and writing.
Ever feel like your mind is stuck in a loop, with the same thoughts going around and around? One tip I picked up from Dale Carnegie’s How to Stop Worrying and Start Living is to start writing. Whether it’s weighing the pros and cons before buying something, outlining a workflow for a system, or tracking what you accomplished in a day, writing can help you clear your mind and get things done.
Conclusion
Writing isn't just about putting words on a page—it's about creating opportunities, sharing knowledge, and even reducing stress. Whether you're looking to earn some extra income, build your influence, or simply clear your mind, writing can be a powerful tool.
So, whether you're writing for money, fame, or just a bit of peace of mind, remember that every word you put out there has the potential to make an impact. Keep writing, keep learning, and keep growing.
