RubyConfTH 2023: the third annual Ruby conference in Thailand, was held on October 6-7, 2023 at the Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 20. The conference attracted over 250 attendees from all over the world, including the creator of Ruby, Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto.
Day 1:
The conference featured a variety of talks and workshops on a wide range of Ruby topics, from beginners to advanced. Some of the highlights of the first day included:
Keynote by Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto:
Matz is a Japanese computer scientist and software programmer best known as the chief designer of the Ruby programming language and its original reference implementation, Matz’s Ruby Interpreter (mri). Matz is nice, and so we are nice!
Bernard Banta:
Bernard Banta is the CTO and co-founder of Finplus Group. He is also Chairman at African Ruby Community. With over 12 years working in tech, Banta is passionate about how technology can be used to transform Africa.
Benji Lewis
Originally from Cape Town but now living in London, has been working at Zappi for the past 6 years. He has a background in Electrical & Computer Engineering and has been working on their analysis and R&D teams where he has been thinking of new ways of storing their data.
Chakrit
Is a seasoned software engineer who has worked on almost every single role in the software department from standard individual contributor all the way to CTO and currently owns and operate PRODIGY9 Co., Ltd. remote software and IT consultancy based in Bangkok, Thailand.
Elle
Is a back-end engineer with more than 15 years of experience, leading projects and teams for many technology organisations. At Blackmill, she coaches engineers in effective management practices so that they become engaging, thoughtful and inclusive leaders.
Syed Faraaz Ahmad
Faraaz is a Software Engineer based out of Bengaluru, India. He leads the development of the Ruby static analyzer at DeepSource. He is the author of the Trains gem, and is always ready to talk about football.
Katrina Owen
Katrina has worked as a professional software developer for 18 years. She is the co-author of 99 Bottles of OOP. Katrina is probably most well known for creating Exercism - a free, not-for-profit coding education platform powered by a wonderful volunteer community, that serves over 1.5 million users.
Lachlan Hardy
A long-time front-end standards dev, Lachlan joined the Australian Ruby community in 2006, but first wrote Ruby for money in 2016 at GitHub. He's led teams and orgs for more than a decade, and now tries to share those experiences as much as possible through his work at Blackmill.
Matthew Lindfield Seager
Matthew is a jack of all trades technologist and developer. He enjoys reading novels, playing sport, running and any activity involving his wife and two teenage children.
Radoslav Stankov
Rado has more than 20 years of experience working in tech. He is currently the CTO and Co-Founder at Angry Building. Previously was Head of engineering at Product Hunt. Enjoys blogging, conference speaking, and solving problems.
