Hello, everyone! My name is Shelley, and this is my first blog post—an exciting moment for me! I’ve spent years in the world of video editing, bringing stories to life one frame at a time. But today, I’m diving into something entirely new: the world of web development.
From Video Editing to Coding
For a long time, my life revolved around video editing. It was a creative, hands-on job where every project felt like an exciting challenge. But over time, I began to crave something different. I wanted to learn how to create things from scratch, and that led me to web development. I wanted to understand how websites were built, not just how they looked.
At first, the world of coding was completely foreign to me. HTML, CSS, JavaScript—it all seemed so complex. But I took it one step at a time. I started with Tailwind CSS, which made learning design so much more approachable. Tailwind's utility-first approach felt almost like editing a video, but instead of clips, I was arranging components and styles to build something interactive. The freedom it provided me was the same rush I used to feel when I worked on editing a film.
Next.js – My Gateway to Web Development
While Tailwind gave me the design skills I needed, I knew I needed to dive deeper into coding. That’s when I found Next.js. For those of you unfamiliar, Next.js is a powerful React framework that simplifies building modern web applications. It was a game-changer for me. With Next.js, I started building real websites, learning not just the design but also the underlying logic that makes a site functional.
What I love about Next.js is how quickly it allows you to see results. Just like video editing, you can start with a simple clip (or a basic page) and layer on elements until you have something truly dynamic and engaging. It’s like editing code instead of video footage.
A Life in Paris
As I write this, I’m sitting in my little apartment in Paris, France, where I’ve lived for the past few years. Paris has always been a city of inspiration for me—whether it’s the architecture, the art, or the fast pace of innovation. It’s been a great place to immerse myself in both my creative background and my new love for tech.
Living here also pushed me to be more adventurous and open to change. I met so many people in the tech community who helped me realize that it’s never too late to try something new. Paris has a way of making you feel like anything is possible—and I needed that energy as I transitioned from video editing to coding.
The Road Ahead
I’m still very much in the early stages of my journey into web development, but I’m thrilled by the progress I’ve made. I’m excited to keep building with Tailwind, exploring more about Next.js, and seeing where this new adventure takes me. In a way, it feels like the same journey I took when I first learned how to edit videos: stepping out of my comfort zone, learning new tools, and finding my creative voice in a different medium.
Thanks for reading my first blog post! I’m looking forward to sharing more about my progress, challenges, and triumphs along the way.
