Create Keyboard Shortcut's to open App's Natively on Mac for Free ( Easy Way )

Target Users

For any IT professionals who is looking to leverage his/her's productivity on his Macbook or IMac.

Problem Statement

Normally I get frustrated and a great desire to throw up my laptop while i am working on some task's and I finally end-up randomly swiping to the right or to the left desktop screen's in order to access one of my application, but every time I failed constantly as I was running multiple application / Browsers/ terminals /Servers / Containers all running in different desktop screen and it was not easy for me to keep swiping and remember which screen had what application in what session :(

One of the Solution

Use Shortcuts Native App

Yes!! there was a reason this guy was sitting on my mac and i was thinking in the past that its the most useless native app ever until I figured out that it can help me achieve small task's in a IF this Do that framework.

How to use Shortcuts to open desired app on your fingertips

  • Open Shortcuts App from your spotlight search

  • Once opened, click on New Shortcut button

  • In the popup now add the title, a name for the shortcut

  • Now on the right sidebar, search for Open App Action keyword and Double Click to select it.

  • Next, you will see a form on the left side that allows you to choose the desired app to open , click on App and now search for your application name & select it.

  • Now shift your focus to right sidebar and click on the i information tab to get to below screen and select Use as Quick Action checkbox

Image description

  • Next, right below you can click on Add Keyboard Shortcut button and press the shortcut button key combination there

Image description

  • Final step is to deselect all the application triggers like shown in the below screenshot on the left panel

  • To sum it up, the entire form popup should look something like this as shown in below screenshot

That's All, Now close the shortcut popup and the shortcut application itself and press the shortcut key combination that you had assigned in the shortcut app, you should see your application opening up for you.

So Now you can create as many shortcut's for all your normal day application's and keep it on your finger tips to toggle between them.

Do Let me known If any other simple solution is available there but for me this worked like a charm and do let me known if you find any issues here, Thanks and Cheers
