Title: Year of the Kiwi
This is a submission for the ****2025 New Year Writing Challenge****: Compiling 2025.
Intro:
2025 is the Year of the Kiwi — not just the fruit, but the engine that will power the next phase of my journey. This isn’t about chasing a dream job at a big tech company. It’s about building my own empire. My goal isn’t to climb the corporate ladder but to create something bigger: a self-sustaining ecosystem of tools, games, and technologies under my own banner. Any job I take will be a stepping stone, a way to fuel my projects and expand Nitro|Citrus and Citrusworx into industry-defining forces.
1. New Skills to Learn:
- Advanced PHP & TypeScript: Expanding my stack to build robust, scalable solutions for Kiwi Engine and beyond.
- Rust/C++/C#: It's time to start working on systems programming.
- Back End: Learning in-depth how to structure and architect a solid back end implementation.
- Business Development: Learning the ins and outs of scaling a tech company, from securing funding to managing a growing team.
- Security Engineering: Making sure every project, especially Kiwi Engine, is fortified against vulnerabilities as it scales.
- 3D Modeling & Animation: Adding custom assets to my games and potentially creating unique hardware integrations for Nitro|Citrus products.
Using websites like freeCodeCamp and Roadmap.sh make learning new languages and concepts available to all who are willing to learn!
2. Side Projects to Pursue:
-
Kiwi Engine Ecosystem:
- Growing Juice (UI library), Nectarine (YAML API & schema library), and GrapeVine (Infrastructure as Code) into tools that can stand on their own.
- Launching Pomelo, my in-house caching system, to optimize performance across platforms.
- Developing Echo, a CMS that showcases the flexibility and power of Kiwi Engine.
-
Game Development:
- Finalizing Trivia! Royale and pushing forward with a 2D RPG inspired by SNES and Gameboy titles.
- Starting pre-production on a Zelda-style adventure game with music-based mechanics.
- Hardware Innovations: Designing custom gaming consoles and boutique NoT devices that integrate seamlessly with Nitro|Citrus software.
3. Career as a Means to an End:
- Software Development Roles: I’ll take on software roles that help sharpen my skills, fund my ventures, and provide insights into scaling software solutions. It’s not about the title—it’s about leveraging every opportunity to build my empire.
- Freelancing & Consulting: Offering development and cloud architecture services to generate revenue while maintaining the freedom to prioritize my projects.
4. Building My Empire:
Nitro|Citrus & Subsidiaries: Nitro|Citrus isn’t just a company—it’s the parent organization for a network of businesses. Citrusworx will revolutionize software and cloud architecture, while Nitro|Citrus will continue to push creative boundaries in games, film, and hardware. But this is only the beginning. I plan to launch a series of companies under the Nitro|Citrus umbrella, each focusing on different aspects of technology, entertainment, and innovation.
Citrus Club Launch: Merging tech retail with creative print-on-demand solutions, Citrus Club will showcase both my technical expertise and design sensibilities.
Creating a Unified Ecosystem: Every project—from Kiwi Engine to boutique IoT devices—will feed into a larger, interconnected system designed to empower creators, businesses, and developers alike. This ecosystem will be the backbone of my empire, fostering innovation across multiple industries.
5. Final Thoughts:
2025 isn’t about finding my place in someone else’s company—it’s about carving out my own space in the industry. Whether it’s through developing cutting-edge software, designing unique games, or creating hardware solutions, this Year of the Kiwi is about turning ideas into a legacy. This is the year I take the next big step toward building something that lasts.
