Introduction
The term "Fedora" might be new to you, and that's perfectly okay, Initially, it was for me too! So, why not grab a coffee, and settle in for a quick guide through the core of the Fedora community as I shed light on what makes it such a unique and vibrant place to explore.
What is Fedora?
Fedora is, at its heart, a freely distributable open-source operating system built to power great ideas. But Fedora is really more than its software; it is a community project in the spirit of open source for people from all walks of life to get involved with in order to make technology more accessible and open.
The Fedora Project is a global partnership of free, open-source software and content providers. It is where the latest in software and development meet a community that's passionate about getting the chance to learn, share, and create together. Learn about the birth of fedora here.
The Fedora Community
The Fedora community, exemplifies the power of many minds working together and just how innovation takes place through collaboration. It is an all-in-space where new ideas are always welcome, and everyone is encouraged to take the lead, share the knowledge, and partake in a project impacting millions around the world. Within the Fedora community, there's a role for everyone.
Developers make up part of the tremendous sea of code that makes all of Fedora's editions go: from the Fedora Workstation, through to the Fedora Server, and all the way down to Fedora IoT. The designers have contributed their talents to the project, so Fedora does not just perform well but looks gorgeous too. Writers and translators ensure that the content of Fedora and the out-facing material reaches a global audience, breaking the language barriers that would keep the project from easily and clearly communicating the needed information. Marketers and event organizers are on their feet to reach out to people and bring in new users and contributors.
How Fedora Innovates
The lifeblood of Fedora is its community—a mosaic of diverse, welcoming individuals bound by the "Four Fs": Freedom, Friends, Features, First. These core values steer everything from coding initiatives to how the community rallies together, highlighting the pivotal role of open-source freedom, the might of collective endeavor, the quest for avant-garde tech features, and a resolve to always be at the forefront of innovation.
