Those who didn't go to college, What steps did you take to land an internship?

Trying my hardest to get my foot into the tech industry. Id love to know what resources you used and books you read that gave you the confidence and competency to apply to a company.

C++ in specific since there's tons of jobs in my area that hire for C++ programmers (Austin) but I'm unqualified as of the moment for all of them lol.

The overall best ways I would say to land an internship is by open learning and open source contributions. Also, you can opt for a non paid internship for 2-3 months or so, to really showcase your skills to paying internships, which would then help you land a high paying stable job.

You can start buy simply identifying any open source software you are confident that you can contribute to, make your contribution, if it is accepted, send an email to them telling them how you would love to learn more about their company (probably emphasis on how interested you are in the work they do), and would be willing to do a non paid internship with them, (no one would pass up free labor) if you have made a good contribution to their software, there is a high chance you would be considered and given that role, from there you can build yourself up. Hope this helpsπŸ‘
