Alibaba has released Wan 2.1, its latest AI model for image and video generation, as open-source, intensifying competition in the AI industry. The model is available on Alibaba Cloud’s ModelScope and HuggingFace, enabling global access for developers and businesses.
The company has launched four versions of Wan 2.1, with the 14B variants being the most powerful, handling 14 billion parameters for high-quality visual generation. Since its launch, Wan 2.1 has topped VBench, a leaderboard ranking AI video models.
In a bid to strengthen its AI dominance, Alibaba has announced a $52 billion investment in cloud computing and AI infrastructure over the next three years. Additionally, it previewed a new reasoning model, QwQ-Max, which will also be open-source soon.
