This is a submission for the 2024 Hacktoberfest Writing challenge: Maintainer Experience
How it started ?
A year ago now, I took my first steps into the world of open source as a contributor. And the first difficulty I encountered was to find projects with basic contribution issues, able to make me understand the contribution process without doing a lot of gymnastics.
At the time, I couldn't find any, until I came across an opportunity. All in Open Source had put out the call for applications for the second cohort of its open source contributor training program. I applied and during the course I was given access to simple projects designed for beginners of all kinds.
Now that I'd finished my training, I took it upon myself to prevent the next generation of contributors from going through the same ordeal as I had. So I created the project helloWorl.
What's helloWorld ?
Does โHello world!โ ring a bell? ๐
Ah yes, it's the first message we generally display when we learn a programming language. It's the most famous message at the time.
helloWorld in reference to the โHello world!โ message is an open source project designed for all types of profile: beginners or experts in open source and computer programming. It consists in providing a program that returns the โHello Worldโ message in the programming language you know.

My experience with Hacktoberfest 2024
During the month of October, I focused on experience sharing, mainly on the basics of open source contribution, through webinars and online and face-to-face workshops.
Below is a summary of the training sessions I led :
- Make your first Open Source contribution for Hacktoberfest 2024.
- Technologies Open Source & IA
- To make your first contribution to an ICP (Internet Computer Protocol) Open Source Project
Hacktoberfest 2024 was for me, a very enriching experience that allowed me to build a more solid background in open source.
I encourage you to take your first step into the world of Open Source by contributing to the helloWorld project. I'd be delighted to merge your code.
Thank you, and see you next time for more initiatives. But in the meantime, let's keep making this world a better place through Open Source.
