Let's do something about impostor syndrome

I see a lot of recent posts around impostor syndrome and it seems like many folks have it one way or the other. What many people don't see is that this is very common amongst DEV community (pardon the pun) and it's not just them.

A few examples 👇🏽:

And many more.

So I thought let's do something about it. I want to create a GitHub repo where people can create a PR stating they are going through impostor syndrome or have had it in the past (with a bit of background or just their name).

This way people can have a look at this repo, see (possibly some big) names and tell themselves that they are not alone and hopefully this will change their mood a bit.

Here is a link to the repo:

GitHub logo yashints / impostor-syndrome

This repo contains the name of the people who are going/have gone through impostor syndrome

Impostor Syndrome Soother

This repo contains the name of the people who are going/have gone through impostor syndrome. If you found yourself going through the same, just have a look at the names here and be assured that it's not just you. Many people face it no mater how experienced they are, and it just takes some time for you to feel better. Just know that you're AWESOME and LOVED.

Some steps which might help you:

  • Just take some time off and relax.
  • Be open about it and share your feelings with someone close to you.
  • See the bigger picture (your journey), where you started and where you're now.
  • Don't belittle yourself and your achievements.
  • You don’t have to know everything, about everything.

And many more. Let's keep this repo growing by your thoughtful PRs and comments.

It's a quite nice initiative. But I think people who post a kind of these topics it's because they wanna write:

  • about their feelings,
  • what was help them,
  • a piece of advice to other people, and wanna be accepted by society & etc.

I don't think it should be worded 'time to get better' it is not an illness it's a sensible feeling in an industry where nothing is truly constant.
