Not a personal win, but the Forem team is starting to close the loop on some huge things.

  • Core Forem open source hosting instructions are moving into the final stage of testing before a wider release (long time coming)
  • The Forem iOS app literally just went live. We'll have a proper announcement early next week, but consider this an early heads up for those reading this. 😄
    • The Forem app is like a browser for the whole ecosystem, so once you start your own Forem anyone who wants to browse DEV on their device can also swipe to your Forem.

Btw for anyone curious, Android will follow in the near future.

We prioritized iOS because Android has a better mobile web experience. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. iOS technology and user expectations really center around native apps.

And again, much more info coming next week. Can't wait to share all about our approach and what this means for the future.

I started a JavaScript Twitch stream!

As some know, I co-host the DEV Twitch stream, and I'm also learning Rust on Tuesdays, but now there is some JavaScript goodness too.

In the inaugural stream, we covered:

  • purpose of the stream
  • some katas from jskatas.org
  • object and array spread

Also, how was JavaScriptHours.com not taken!?

Let's see....

  • I got 2 new badges in dev.to
  • For the first time, my server wasn't down this week!
  • I got 2 new followers on GitHub! (github.com/manuthecoder)
  • I figured out how to prevent script injections and implemented it on my site via htmlspecialchars() in PHP
  • I added a custom labels feature in my web app
  • And, I figured out how to to use opensearchdescription to make a custom search bar
  <link rel="search" href="https://smartlist.ga/search.xml" type="application/opensearchdescription+xml" title="Smartlist" />

I managed to get positions 1,2 and 3 for the #a11y tag for the month here on dev.to - I am a competitive so and so, it made me more happy than it should really 🤣

InHuOfficial has articles in positions 1,2 and 3 of the monthly rankings for the #a11y tag (accessibility tag)

The worrying thing is that they are all angry rants - people are going to start thinking I am a monster! 🤣

Fixed some architecture design issue at workplace, to make things more decoupled and easily accessible.

It was a great week TBH.

  • I got a good opportunity as an author from a well known company mainly because they liked my DEV articles.
  • My recent article received quite a lot of attention.
  • Quincy Larson called me a legend in the daily.dev live session at around 47:00:00 minutes, mainly for my contribution to the freeCodeCamp news.
  • One of my old clients came back after one year of silence, willing to revive an old dead project.

That's pretty much it 😊

I'm trying out the new sublime text 4, it has been quite nice so far.

Also, I learned a little bit about awk, just enough to make this silly little function.
