142/365 | ¥10M Job Challenge - Why Work Remotely in Japan?

I want to live in Japan long-term for so many reasons. While there are many ways to achieve this, the simplest and most reliable option is to secure a job with a company and apply for a work visa.

Since I’ve been working remotely for a long time, going back to an office would be really difficult. In fact, I find that working in an office is often far less efficient. I don’t quite understand why some managers believe office work is more productive—based on my experience over the past decade, most people actually slow down their work on purpose in an office environment to avoid overloading themselves, especially given the rigid atmosphere.

In an office, it’s also easy to get distracted and have your workflow interrupted. Plus, the equipment provided at the office is usually not as good as what I have at home.

As for communication, online meetings with screen sharing are actually more efficient. They allow for better focus and minimize disruptions to ongoing work. DM also provides a buffer, unlike office conversations.

If remote work really isn’t an option, I’d rather go back to freelancing or explore other visa solutions. However, my Japanese language skills are improving slowly, so it still seems quite difficult to transition in the short term.

For now, the best approach is to break down challenging tasks into smaller, manageable steps and keep moving forward, one step at a time.
