My Experience as a fullstack intern

Hello devs,

A little introduction about myself—I started as a MERN stack developer, like many generalist developers in India. However, my journey took an unexpected turn when I landed a full-stack developer role through campus placements, working with .NET Core and AngularJS.

At first, it felt like my world had been flipped upside down. After spending so much time mastering the MERN stack, suddenly shifting to an entirely different tech stack in just a few weeks was overwhelming. Adapting quickly became a necessity rather than a choice, and honestly, it wasn’t easy.

The Good Part

Despite the initial struggle, this shift has given me a fresh perspective on software development. I've gained a deeper understanding of object-oriented programming, MVC architecture, and how enterprise applications are structured and maintained. These are foundational concepts that transcend specific technologies and are essential for any software engineer.
Another major perk of this experience is the people I work with. Some of my colleagues have years of experience in enterprise development, and learning from them has been incredibly valuable. The exposure to real-world scalability challenges, best practices, and team collaboration is something I wouldn’t have gained as quickly had I stuck to my comfort zone.

The Not So Good Part

However, not everything has been smooth sailing. One of the aspects I find less exciting is the nature of the work. Most of the projects here involve legacy enterprise applications, with little opportunity to build something entirely from scratch. As someone who enjoys creating new things, this has been a bit frustrating.
While there’s a lot to learn from maintaining and improving existing systems, I miss the thrill of starting fresh, creating solutions from the ground up, and experimenting with modern approaches. That’s something I hope to explore more in the future.

What Now ?

Overall, this internship has been a valuable learning experience, even if it didn’t align perfectly with what I initially envisioned. I’m committed to making the most of it until August, and after that—well, let’s see where the road takes me.

Until then, I’ll continue learning, growing, and sharing my experiences. Stay tuned for more updates!
