My past work experience has been all over the place—I’ve dabbled in a lot but mastered very little. I’ve worked on desktop development, mobile development, web front-end and back-end, Linux, databases, cloud computing—pretty much anything I could get my hands on. But in this world, being a generalist doesn’t really help much when it comes to job opportunities and salary. It’s only recently that I’ve felt my ability to integrate different areas is finally being valued, especially with AI assistance, which makes it much easier to quickly fill in any gaps in deep expertise when needed.
I don’t know what the future holds, but my strategy has already changed because AI has advanced far faster than I ever imagined in just the past couple of years.
We never know when our knowledge and experience will come in handy, but waiting until the moment we need it to start learning might be too late. I believe that one day, its value will become clear.
