2024: NYSC, 9-5 Wins, and My AI/ML Journey

This is a submission for the 2025 New Year Writing challenge: Retro’ing and Debugging 2024.

My Journey Through 2024: A Year of Growth and Self-Discovery

2024 was a beautiful year, filled with blessings and experiences that I’m incredibly grateful for. Here's a breakdown of my eventful and transformative year:

  • Completed NYSC

Finally severed my father's land through the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), still miss camp. I met amazing people and experienced a different side of life and the world.

  • Got a 9-5 Job (Not Tech-Related Though)

As they say, hard work pays off, but I believe grace offers so much more. After completing my service, I was retained by the company where I served. While I look forward to switching to a tech-related role, this job pays the bills for now.
If you have any internship opportunities for a newbie learning Python, please hook me up! 😊

  • Got My Own Apartment

Post-service, I needed to find a new place to stay since the company-provided accommodation was no longer available. Navigating the chaotic world of house agents was a challenge, but I decided to take matters into my own hands. But why are agents like that?
Remarkably, I found my current apartment on the very first day I went searching by myself!

  • Returned to Learning Programming

This time, I focused on Python with the aim of diving into AI/ML. My journey with programming began in higher institution with web development, but a lack of a laptop held me back. I continued with graphic design on my phone until the programming urge hit me like a tsunami during my service year. Watching another corps member learn HTML and CSS reignited my passion, and I found myself offering tips and resources.✨

Now, I'm learning Python using the laptop assigned to me for office duties and eagerly await getting my own laptop. It’s been fun writing code again, but the sheer volume of information can be overwhelming when you are learning by yourself and it's a hassle staying on course and finding the right tutorial. I’m also on the lookout for a community where i can find ML/AI enthusiasts who are on the same learning path to join—recommendations are welcome!

- The Biggest of All: Self-Discovery

I finally discovered the truth of who I am in Christ, who He is to me, and what He has done. Despite being a Christian from birth, my service year from 2023 to 2024 unveiled profound truths that transformed my mentality, life, and future.

In a nutshell, 2024 was amazing, and 2025 promises to be a year of completeness.
